Sparkly Crochet Baubles Tutorial

Try this easy tutorial for making pins or hair accessories using crochet motifs, Mod Podge, old costume jewelry bits, and a glue gun! The results are sparkly bits of color you can use to dress up any scarf or hairdo.


Materials Used:
US 1.4 or 1.5mm steel crochet hook
Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet
Mod Podge
Bits of costume jewelry baubles
Alligator clips
Hot glue gun

Black Motif:
Ch 5, join with sl st to form ring. 
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, *ch 2, 3 dc in ring, repeat from * twice more, ch 2, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in next 2 dc, *5 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 3 dc, repeat from * twice more, 5 sc in last ch-2 sp, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 3: Sl st in next sc, ch 6, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (picot), ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc, *ch 1, (dc, ch 4, sl st in top of last dc, dc) in 3rd sc of corner, ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, (dc, picot) in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc, repeat from * twice, ch 1, (dc, ch 4, sl st in top of last dc, dc) in 3rd sc of corner, ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3. 
Fasten off.

Yellow Motif:
Ch 5, join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), (dc, ch 1) 11 times in ring, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 4.
Rnd 2: Sl st into ch-1 sp, ch 3, dc2tog in sp, *ch 2, dc3tog in next sp,* (ch 3, tr in next dc, ch 3), dc3tog in next sp, [repeat between * and * twice, repeat between ( ) once, dc3tog in next sp], repeat between [ ] twice, ch 2, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3. Fasten off.

Blue Motif:
Ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring
Rnd 1:  Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, (ch 5, 3 dc in ring) 5 times, ch 5, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 2: Ch 4, keeping last loops of each tr on hook, work 1 tr in each of next 2 dc, yo and pull through all loops on hook (cluster), *ch 4, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 sp, ch 4, work cluster over next 3 dc, repeat from * around, ending with ch 4, join with sl st to 4th ch of beginning ch 4.
Fasten off. 

You'll want these motifs to be super stiff, so either dip them in Mod Podge, dab off the excess, and pin out to dry, OR paint several coats of Mod Podge on each side, allowing to dry between coats. 
Then hot-glue the sparkles to the motifs, hot-glue the motifs to the alligator clips or safety pins, and you're done!
